Kellett and Sparks (2012) argued that the resources provided to developing nations for their disaster relief should be distributed to where it will make the most impact on the humanitarian scale (p. 8).One of the reasons for this position is to make the donor nation appear not to be influencing the independence of these countries. However, what is obtainable in reality according to Cohen and Weker (2008) is influenced by the political effect (p. 800). Also, Cohen and Weker (2008) explained that the political effect allows “governments of donor nations to favor disaster spending in regions that are politically aligned with their interests” (p. 800). My opinion on the use of economic status for aid distribution agrees with that of Ford (2010), which posits that poorer nations should be given the highest priority during the allocation (p. 231). The current statistical data that shows how the funds lift approximately ten million people out of poverty annually is additional support for this argument. (162 words).

” Thank you for your post. You stated that the poorest nations should be a priority. I agree that developing nations in of the greatest need; however, according to Hutchinson (2005), twenty-two countries had “pledged to give nearly one percent of their national income to poor nations” (para. 7). Only five countries kept that promise. Do you think that if fluent nations had kept their promise to help the poorer countries that they would have used the funds to mitigate disasters?”
