Task Details: Students are to research and identify three different approaches to strategic management, and compare and contrast them, particularly focusing on suggested benefits, implementation issues and limitations. Students should include “Sustainable approach” as one of three approaches.
Students should identify at least one organisation where each approach has been implemented, and evaluate the success of the approach. Students should draw some supported conclusions as to the viability of each approach, and present their research, analysis and conclusions in a professionally presented report.
Potential approaches that students can choose from include:
o Sustainable approach
o Stakeholder approach
o Sequential approach
o Hierarchical approach
o Incremental and interactive approach
o Agency theory
o Industrial Organizational approach
o Sociological approach
o Organizational change approach
Research requirements: Students need to support their analysis with support from the text and a minimum of 10 suitable, reliable, current and academically acceptable sources – this should include at least 4 academic journal articles.
Students should demonstrate an understanding of the validity of other sources and the information gained from them, e.g. the information found on a corporate website is only like to present the positive elements. The articles in Section 2.9 above may be used if relevant, but better research marks will be awarded to students who do their own independent relevant research.
