My healthy People assigned focus area is on Eczema. Eczema is a a condition that I have lived for more than 10 years of my adult life. The condition worsen when the winters are bad has it is now in New York.Eczema is a general term for dermatitis which means inflammation of the skin. There are eight types of Eczema in all. Atropic dermatitis is a severe and chronic long lasting form of eczema and it is the most common kind of skin problems. Some of the symptoms of eczema are different for everyone and it may not look the same for everyone. My symptoms are ongoing, I have experienced itchiness, cracked skin, and sometimes my skin become inflamed and blistered. I changed dermatologist and allergist through out the years to seek medical advised and treatments. I am able to control the flare ups with prescribed medication and

over the counter lotions and creams. I have to use products that has oatmeal ceramide3 and it has to be fragrant free of perfumes.

The cultural biases to being diagnosed with this disease are that most people think it is contagious and mostly children have this condition. People who live in cities and dry climates mey be more likely to get this disease. According to Genetics Home References, the genetics of Atopic dermatitis Eczema are not completely understood. Studies suggest that several genes can be involved in development of the condition. No one knows what causes atopic dermatitis it’s probably passed down form your parents genetics(Gentics Home reference,2017).

Primary and secondary methods of preventing the health problem are to know what you eat and know your dietary intake with food. Know your family history, inheritance pattern Allergic disorders tend to run in families having a parent with atopic dermatitis, asthma or hay fever raises the chances a person will develop atopic dermatitis. (Genetics Home reference,2017)

Contributing factors to eczema flare ups are wool or synthetic fibers, soaps and detergents, some perfumes, and cosmetic, substance such has chlorine , mineral oil, or solvents, dust and sand, cigarette smoke, sleep problems, food that seem to be related to skin flares, previous treatments for skin related symptoms and use of steroids or other medications (Nationaleczema.org).

The environment and climate changes are contributing elements to eczema flare up.According to Genetic Home Reference the FLG gene provides instructions for making a protein called profilaggrim, which is important for the structure of the outermost layer of skin. Proteins derived form profilaggrin help create a strong barrier to keep in water and keep out foreign substances, including toxins, bacteria and allergens. These proteins also are part of the skins”natural moisturizing factor,”which helps maintain hydration of the outer most layer of skin.

Seek professional and medical help for this medical condition Eczema can go into remission and can be controlled with the right medications, making some personal changes with what you used to wash your clothes, take daily showers in lukewarm water and proper hydration of the body.

Nadine says:

I have been assigned Substance Abuse in Teens for my discussion topic. But I will focus on Drug abuse among teenagers. Drug abuse among teenagers is a severe issue today. Not only does it physically and emotionally destroy our youth, but it also affects society as a whole. Sometimes educating teens or entering rehabilitation programs are not enough of a deterrent. What causes teenagers to go beyond routine experimentation of drugs and become addicts? Like any teen, peer pressure is a biggie. If one wants to fit in with their peers, they tend to do as they do. Perhaps to fit into a particular group, you must behave and use as they do. Another reason may be not fitting into the category of your choice. Teenagers tend to go through many changes, physically, hormonally, and emotionally. Then there is always the neighborhood or environment that they live. Perhaps the community is active in drugs and crime. These effects are higher than the early stages of life. The teen knows more than the baby or toddler. Perhaps, they believe ”they know it all!” They want individual independence from their parents and families. Growing pains are tough. Some teens even become depressed and drop out of school. Some may also return to drugs as an escape from the pressures of school, peers, and families.

One primary method of preventing Drug Abuse Among Teenagers
Based on the Comprehensive Theory of Substance Abuse Prevention (1/27/2011), a case can be made for devoting a majority of substance abuse prevention efforts toward parents and other adults regarding youth substance use, rather than directly toward youth. Although some primary prevention efforts, such as making alcohol less accessible to underage youth, may also have some effect on youth who have started to use a substance. The magnitude of intervention needed to respond appropriately to these youth goes beyond “universal prevention” initiatives, and into the realm of “indicated” services for each child individually identified as needing secondary intervention.

One crucial point is to understand the intended meaning of “substance abuse prevention efforts.” Based on the “prime dichotomy” described in the Comprehensive. The primary way that issues of substance use and abuse would include would be regarding avoiding substance use when pregnant (or likely to become pregnant), and preventing substance abuse by parents at any time. For the most part, the mission and resources for these kinds of efforts would be in various elements of public health and child protection fields, since both the range of potential family problems and the impact of active interventions would be much broader than just substance abuse issues.

In regards to Drug Abuse Among Teenagers, the social ecology of health model that Use and abuse of drugs by teens are very common and can have serious consequences. In the 15-24 year age range, 50% of deaths. A teenager with a family history of drug abuse and a lack of pro-social skills can rush from experimentation to patterns of severe damage or dependency. Some other teenagers with no family history of abuse who experiment may also progress to abuse or addiction. Therefore, there is a good chance that teenagers with a family history of drug abuse are particularly advised to abstain and not experiment. No one can predict for sure who will abuse or become dependent on drugs except to say the non-user never will.
