Create data tables in your lab report, organized by part, for all of the data you have

collected. You should have 4 tables for part A (colors of solutions, colors and percent

transmittance for two complementary colors, width and percent transmittance for one

sample, concentration/absorbance/transmittance for one sample), and 2 tables for part

B (reaction solution compositions (with stock molarities!), and sample/absorbance).

Calculations

Part A.

In excel, create a plot with concentration on the x axis and absorbance on the y axis. Be

sure to include all appropriate titles and labels on the chart (the units of absorbance are

“arbitrary units” or “unitless”). Add to your chart a trendline, and be sure to show the

equation for the line and the R2 value for the line. Copy this chart into your lab report.

The line of best fit from your chart corresponds directly to Beer’s law, A=?bC. Show your

work to determine the molar absorptivity constant, ?, for your solution from the slope of

the line
