Bar response
Coding is important to qualitative analysis because it enables researchers to organize and group data into categories because they share characteristics (Saldana, 2008, p.8). According to Borgatti open coding is the part if the analysis concerned with identifying, naming, categorizing, and describing phenomena found. Axial coding is relating codes to each other by a combination of inductive and deductive thinking (Borgatti). Selective coding is the process of choosing one category to be the core category, and relating the other categories to that category. Open coding can refer to hospitals or friendships. An example may be the importance of closeness in a friendship to each party. Axial coding can refer to phenomenon. An example may include the activity performed in response to the phenomenon. Selective coding can refer to a single plot and everything else is draped. An example of selective coding is wanting to make a difference by finding the problem.
